Weather

This panel on the left shows the weather and temperature at our villa right now (Remember that there is a 5 hour time difference between Florida and the UK)

It is a live link to www.weather.com

Florida is called the "Sunshine State"! As you can see in the first chart the average temperatures are high all year round, especially compared to the UK. The hottest time of year is June to September and during this time you can expect temperatures to reach over 90°F. So remember to protect yourselves from the hot sun with appropriate sunscreen and drink lots of water.

This chart shows the average monthly rainfall in inches for the Orlando area. The hottest time of year is June to September which also happens to be the wettest. So during this time you can not only expect temperatures to reach over 90°F but also experience an occasional thunderstorm or heavy tropical downpour, often in late afternoon. These can be very refreshing and due to the heat everything dries off very quickly.

The 2004 hurricane season in Florida was unprecedented, hurricanes very rarely actually reach the Orlando and Kissimmee areas with any force. But our villa survived undamaged from the 3 hurricanes that hit the area in 2004!

Hurricanes form as storms in the tropics near the equator. Hurricanes need a lot of energy and they get the energy from the ocean. The warm water and warm air near the surface help to cause hurricanes to form. Once they form, they take energy from the water to get stronger. While a hurricane is over warm water it will continue to grow. If it travels over land it will start to weaken and eventually end. This is why they mainly affect the coastal areas, and by the time they travel inland as far as Orlando they have lost so much of their force they normally arrive as nothing more than tropical storms.
